St Mary's Retirement Village
St Mary's Retirement Village comprises 34 seniors living units and a 33-place low care residential aged care community (hostel) located in Wollongong's southern suburb of Berkeley.
Situated on a gently sloping site with views of Lake Illawarra, the retirement village is located within a pleasant garden setting and is within easy walking distance to the local Catholic parish church, St Mary's Berkeley shopping centre is approximately half a kilometre away.
Residents participate in various organised activities, some of which involve establishing links and friendships with the adjacent hostel community. ‘Community' is a word that St Mary's strives to bring alive every day through group activities, friendships and the environment. Staff provide a warm, caring and secure environment for residents and their families.
Bishop McCabe Retirement Village is also part of the St Mary's community. Bishop McCabe Retirement Village is an independent living community of 24 units, located in Towradgi in Wollongong's northern suburbs
For 25 years, the Diocese of Wollongong owned and managed the aged care ministries of St Mary's Retirement Village and Bishop McCabe Retirement Village, Towradgi. To ensure its aged care ministries long-term sustainability and growth, the Diocese, transitioned ownership of the ministries to Catholic Healthcare in May 2006.
The Diocese of Wollongong is a member organisation of Catholic Healthcare.St Mary's Retirement Village is accessible by a local public transport bus route, connecting Unanderra, Berkeley, Warrawong and the Illawarra region. Electric train services to the Sydney metropolitan region and beyond are available at the Unanderra railway station. Taxis can drop passengers at the top of the drive, outside the hostel's main entry.
